JOB SUMMARY:

Alter Behavioral Health operates a series of evidence-based residential treatment centers for primary mental health disorders. We are a leader and innovator in transforming lives and are establishing a new level of care in primary mental health treatment.

The Nurse Practitioner has a principal function to lead a team of compassionate medical staff to care for individuals receiving care at the Program. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to directly oversee and lead all nursing services and personnel to support medical and clinical performance and best practice standards within Mental Health Treatment Services at all levels of care offered by the aforementioned programs as well as within Mental Health and Psychiatric Treatment Services. This position represents a collaborative, collective voice for all Medical Staff at in the employ of and/or contracted at a facility owned and operated by the Program.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, Licensure & Certification: Individual holds a current, unrestricted medical license as a Nurse Practitioner or equivalent or greater licensure in the state of California.
  • Individual holds a current, unrestricted DEA Certification. Individual holds current CPR / First Aid Certification, BLS or ACLS preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience working in Disorder Treatment, Mental Health, Psychiatric Treatment settings preferred. Individual possesses a minimum of 1 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Individual possesses an exceptional medical understanding of disorders, treatments, and pharmacotherapies for Adult Mental Health Disorders, Psychiatric Disorders, and ASAM. Individual possesses knowledge of and complies with Federal, State, and Local laws, as they pertain to Psychiatric Treatment settings. Individual possesses knowledge of and complies with all applicable laws to physicians including HIPAA and title 42 CFR.

Ethics & Morals: Individual must practice and maintain the highest ethical and moral standards among all employees, contractors, patients and members of the general public.

Integrity & Character: Individual must possess the ability to remove bias and provide client care and program management that aligns with the Core Values of the organization.

Technical Writing Skills: Individual must have excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills as it pertains to technical writing necessary for clinical and medical policy, procedure, and training drafting.

Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Documentation: Individual upholds and assists with development, review, revision, and implementation of the policies and procedures of the facilities including, but not limited to, the development of treatment protocols, admission criteria, exclusion criteria, discharge criteria, and transfer criteria.

Flexible Availability: Willing and able to work days, evening hours, nights, weekends, and be on-call, as necessary.

Travel Capabilities: If more than one facility, capable of travel between facilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Additional Required Skills & Qualifications: Individual demonstrates cultural sensitivity and a desire to work with an ethnically diverse adult population as well as ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse socioeconomic, education, racial, ethnic and professional backgrounds.

Health Care Provider Duties:

  • Performs client evaluations, History and Physical evaluations, medication management, and medication assisted treatment in compliance with documentation timelines set forth within the program policies and procedures and additionally as needed, as permitted by Medical Director as well as active Certifications and Licenses.
  • Provides Medical Services as needed as well as upon request within eight (8) hours of request via phone or within 24 hours in person or via telehealth as needed.
  • Orders labs and other medically appropriate testing, prescribes medications, and treatments for clients.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of treatment plans and collaboratively participates in discharge planning.
  • Consults with other physicians/clinicians about each client’s specific need and refers to specialists as necessary
  • Documents all Client contact accurately and timely in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Participates as an active member of the Multidisciplinary team.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to participate on clinical/medical committees, providing education and quality review.
  • Participates in the medical on-call rotation and is available to respond to all emergencies at the facilities 24/7.
  • Regularly review and recommend changes in program services to meet client needs with particular emphasis on services for underserved populations, oversight of program evaluation and quality assurance functions for department including assessment of applicable legal and professional requirements and monitoring treatment plans for clients.
  • Work with other members of the management team to assure successful communication and coordination between all departments and participate in strategic planning.
