Summary
The Kansas City VA Medical Center is recruiting for one Resuscitation Education Initiative (REdI) and Simulation Training Coordinator. The incumbent is responsible for development and coordination of comprehensive interprofessional professional development and training throughout simulation to promote quality education and hands on training in a safe environment. The incumbent is responsible to the Chief Nurse of Professional Development and is accountable to the Executive of High Reliability.

Duties

Major Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining operational aspects of the Simulation Program.
- Maintaining professional relationships with colleagues in the Learning Organization, Nursing Faculty, KCVA managers and other personnel throughout the organization.
- Working closely with colleagues within VISN 15 and nationally to develop, standardize and administer CPR/REdI, and Simulation programs throughout the organization and is responsible to having working knowledge of all active programs and the flexibility to travel to any KCVA site to deliver education, training, and orientation to personnel in all programs offered.
- Taking responsibility to create education through simulation for programs that include but are not limited to: Nurse Residency Programs, New Nurse Orientation (NNO), Mock program, Preceptor Training Program, support competency validation through administration and/or oversite of Simulation training scenarios.
- Working closely with managers, staff, Professional Development Practitioners and preceptors, providing expertise and experience to establish specialized training.
- Consistently following performance measures, acting in collaboration with the managers and staff, to increase or maintain high scores for efficiency, patient safety measures and quality of care, when appropriate, through simulation scenarios to improve practice.
- Receiving, setting up and taking responsibility for new and existing Simulation and REdI equipment to include retrieval/inventory of newly arrived equipment, transport to and safe storage among sites.
- Serving as expert in the operation of all Simulation Center and REdI equipment and maintaining expertise through ongoing training opportunities at CPR BLS/ALS training sites.
- Participating in Mock Code Program, and BLS/ALS training throughout KCVA.
- Establishing community and academic partnerships.
- Conceptualizing and developing new courses, scenarios, and initiatives for educating clinicians, health professionals, students, and others.
- Maintaining operational aspects of the REdI program.
- Responsible for implementing and managing the VHA's REdI Program in accordance with REdI guidelines within the KCVA and its CBOC's.
- Ensuring all BLS and ALS offering on site contain all required core content and in collaboration with facility Director, Chief of Staff, and Associate Director for Patient Care Services, establishing criteria for acceptability of external certification for BLS and ALS.
- Creating course agendas tailored to training site requirements that include all required core content.
- Ensuring the appropriate records and reports are maintained on site and forwarded to REdI by the suspense dates.
- Maintaining adequate training resources and is responsible for AHA/REdI course completion requirements.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.)
